Day 2,724 —Still Here— with my PICTURE of CONSTRUCTION at the BAT CAVES

There has been construction on Heege at least twice a year for the past three years. I looked at the sign this morning: “Local Traffic Only.”

That message has always bothered me because I know what it means, but it is such an empty command. How do you define local? Do you have to live on the street or be in a certain zip code? But what if you are visiting a friend?

There is another sign on my street that says, “no cut thru.” It serves as an advertisement for people to cut through.

The signs themselves bother me because who are you kidding? I have never seen these prescriptive commands enforced. And people willfully ignore them. I remember a man getting so mad when someone ignored one of the signs, he chased a car down the street. What did he plan to do if he had caught the car? Was he thinking he would throw the man out of the car and ask to check his driver’s license?

I suggest we come up with a better system.
