Day 2,732 —Do Something Good for Someone Else Daily— with my PICTURE of a TRIBUTE to SCOUTS
The Scout slogan is “Do a Good Turn Daily,” which is probably one of their best ideas. Yet, I would ask, why only one? It makes doing good by others seem more like a chore than a way of life. It comes off like, “brush your teeth daily,” as opposed to a philosophical viewpoint.
I do not mean that as a slam but instead a humble observation. When we ask others to do good, we expect them to know what that looks like. However, I do not think people trying to do good is really the issue. Most of us are trying to do good, but our concept of good can be limited to what we think is good, which sometimes is and other times it is the opposite of good.
Instead of trying to “Do a Good Turn Daily,” I would suggest trying to “Engage with Someone you Disagree with Daily.” By doing so my hope would be that your concept of “good,” to be both narrowed and broaden, to be more inclusive in those it benefits.
