Day 3064 —Late Night Drinking v. Late Night Running— with a PICTURE of a LEAF and a WOODEN FENCE
Went out after midnight with the goal to run for at least a marathon or to make it to sunrise. When I finish around 5:30, part of me didn’t want to miss the sunrise, but it had been such a gorgeous night! The clouds gathered and then spread out, glowing in the moonlight.
A cop flagged me down because he said he saw me by the train track. I thought he was waving hi at first, so I waved back at him, but when I continued to move. He said, “I want to talk to you!”
I thanked him for his concern and explained that I was taking a picture and was just out here training. He seemed disappointed and continued on his way.
I saw him drive by me at least one more time during the run. He probably was disappointed when he realized it was still me. I guess I can understand his frustrated. It was surprisedly quiet night, not much going on in Webster.
I saw some people still at the bar. Someone shouted at me, “Good for you!!!”
I don’t know what people think when they see me running and they have been out drinking. I wonder what I would have thought if I was there having a late night and saw someone with a headlamp, jogging past me as I sat with a full glass in my hand.
This was a great way to spend the evening. It is only missing the possibility of meeting a stranger who will tell me their whole life story. I miss that about bars Running needs to incorporate these chance encounters, but that I think is the only thing bars have over running.
