Day 2,542 —Don’t Make Assumptions— (with Warm Leaves and Orange Sunrise)

This is the hardest one for me to remember because it goes with, “Don’t Take Anything Personally,” in both form and meaning. I agree that it is good in theory to not make assumptions; however, it is difficult to live in the world without having to assume a great deal e.g., I assume I should go into work today. There is so little we know for sure, in order to act at all there is a level of assumption that you are going to make.

However, that’s not the type of assumption that the agreement is referencing to me, nor do I think it is trying to tackle this impossible idea of literally never assuming. To me this goes with something Socrates said a long time ago, “The more I know, the more I realize I know nothing.”

It is impossible for us to get the full picture of what motivates others to do things, so you cannot make objective moral or value judgements on others because you know so little of what actually happened and why. I would amend this one to, “Accept that you don’t have enough information to conclude any moral judgement on others.”

Interesting run today, I saw someone sitting by the storage place on the ground. I would have tried to say hi and be nice, but I don’t think they wanted to be disturbed. While I was over there, a train went by, and I stopped and took pictures. I wish my daughter could have seen it. She loves trains.
