Day 4,060 —5 Runs until the Huron 100: Shopping and more Memories—

I stopped by the store during my run to buy some coconut water and butane for my camping adventure. I bought a little stove to use, and I am excited about being able to plan what I want to eat the night before the race. I am also excited about the silence, or if there is talking from the other campsites, it won’t be directed at me.

I was thinking about the RV trip more, and something that always stuck out to me was how my grandmother let me pick out stuff from the store I wanted to buy. I remember loving nachos, so I bought a special cheese dip that you put on the chips and then you put it in the microwave, and it was supposed to melt like nacho cheese.

I don’t know if they are still things, but they were amazing. I gained so much weight on the trip that my grandmother had to buy me new pants that were labeled “husky,” and I remember feeling so much shame for gaining weight. When I got home from the trip, all anyone could talk about was how much bigger I was.

I remember going to Judo practice when I was back home, and James Renaud was there. I pushed myself a lot that day, and James told me he thought I would lose the weight in no time. It was a nice thing to say, but it also made me feel self-conscious because I wasn’t sure how he knew that was what I was thinking.
