Day 4,089—Running on the River Walk in San Antonio—
I got here yesterday for an education conference, and it is the kind of place where you can walk everywhere you need to go. We walked to a place to eat last night, and it was about a mile and a half away, and then we walked a couple of miles to a grocery store. When we walked back to the hotel, we took the River Walk. I didn’t realize that our hotel was right next to the River Walk!
They were doing some kind of fun 5k for the conference this morning at 6:15, but when I got up, I felt like just running by the river on this trail and seeing how far it went. I went down about 3 miles and turned around. I had to make a few turns, so I was worried it might be harder to find my way back than I thought.
It was so cool! And when I first started, there was no one else on the trail. I was so close to the water I felt like I could fall in. I was surprised it wasn’t lighter at 6 a.m. On my way back, there were so many other people out! I saw so many places to eat and shop and the different light reflections on the water. I would love to live by a river walk like this. We have some water streams in St. Louis that I can run by, but my favorite has to be the Meramec. The other two just aren’t that fun to be by. The Mississippi is visually intense, but it smells so bad it isn’t that fun to be next to. They called this a river, but it seemed like a canal to me because of how narrow it was.
I am looking forward to exploring it more.
