Day 3,510—Listening to a podcast titled: What if you Believed you were Unlovable? —
Just three more runs until my personal 100 my run on Saturday! I still have more to do to get ready but it is exciting to think about.
I have been struggling to get back into a good audiobook rotation, so I was looking through podcasts to listen to, and I found this one. It was just someone’s story of growing up, experiencing trauma, and later being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
I can see why they didn’t title the episode with that information. A lot of people have a bias towards individuals with borderline, especially those working in health services, who have likely been told horror stories about individuals with borderline.
My main exposure is a book I read over the summer and what I have read in other books. This person talked about how, when they went to school to become a mental health counselor, they were told by their teachers to never mention their diagnosis.
I have had teachers who have openly discussed why they struggle with having empathy for those with borderline personality disorder, and most depictions are extremely negative and characterize the person as being mean, self-centered, and manipulative. Part of me thinks that maybe that’s how everyone can react to feeling unlovable.
