Day 4,230—Lightning Ricocheting off the Clouds—
My phone said it was going to rain in an hour and most of the day. When I started running, the dark clouds surrounded and pressed closer to the ground.
My headlamp was on, but it didn’t feel as needed because so much lightning echoed through the clouds, lighting up the sky. I wanted to run at least a mile before I stopped to take a picture, so I went on, going through the Georgetown Apartment complex.
Once I hit a mile, I was on the trails, thinking about how almost all trails look the same. If I took a picture here, would it seem different compared to all the other trails I have been on? Of course, sections look very different, but once on the trail surrounded by trees, isn’t it all the same? While I pondered this, I considered that many trails I frequent are single-track, and this wasn’t.
I kept true to my desire for a break and only ran a slow two more miles. I was thinking about my leg and hip pain more yesterday, and a flood of memories came back where I was also dealing with different kinds of pain and how I managed it in the end. I might need to go back to the acupuncturist that seemed to be the most effective in dealing with the pain, but just taking it easy helps too.
I was also thinking I could still plan on being outside a lot on trails while recovering, but I just need to go slow, do some running/walking at times. I need the training anyway, and I don’t think that manner of activity is going to make things worse, even if I am out there a long time. I was reading through a run I did a couple of years ago, where I ran all night at Lone Elk and did 40 miles there. I need to do something like that more. I have time off coming up, but I also have a paper and presentation to put together, which I need to work on today. No excuses! 4 more days until break!
