Day 3,667 —Flooding in Lone Elk—

I wanted to keep going and go through the water. I tried to find a way around it. I couldn't find a clear path, so I grabbed a stick and started to see how deep it was. I knew it could not be that deep, but because it was cloudy, I did not want to walk through it. If it were a race, I would jump in, but today I turned around and ran in another section of the park. It was flooded too, near the end of the loop, so I turned around and ran back. It was fun, and it was pretty but wet and muddy. It must be spring.

I didn’t have a lot of time this morning, but I wanted to see what the trail was like after all the rain we have been getting. I was thinking about how bad it was raining on the Berryman two years ago. It might seem boring for some people to do the same races each year, but I kind of like the more relevant comparison when reflecting on how things change over time. This will be my third consecutive Berryman. It is always tougher than I think it is going to be. After all, I can run 100 miles, so 52 shouldn’t be so tough, but it always is. Every mile is tough.
