Day 3,910 —Preparing for the Snow—
It was in the low 20s, but I was feeling warmer after running a couple of miles. I didn’t want to make the mistake of going fast and getting hot, so it took me a little over a mile to get comfortable. My new headlamp was working miraculously, but I hadn’t taken a picture yet, so I sat on a bench on the trails in Blackburn Park. I took a few photos without my light on and then turned it on to take a few, but I suddenly saw a person walking right where I was looking. They looked down and had a mask on their face.
They were most likely trying to stay warm, but it did seem odd they were out in the dark without a light.
Everyone is talking about the impending snowstorm at work today. There was a 22-inch snowstorm in St. Louis in 1982. I was looking at pictures of it today. My boss remembers they closed schools for two weeks.
I always fantasized about living through snow accumulation like that before, but now I don’t know how much I want to see it. I love going out to run before anyone is out. I love seeing the clean lines of the white pile, like a giant blanket hugging the earth.
