Day 3,921 —3 Runs until the Shippey: Wolf Moon—

I focused on taking pictures and trying not to fall. It was cold, but not that cold.

I looked it up yesterday after seeing how big the moon was. I read about it yesterday. It started on Sunday and will be visible until Wednesday morning. During the Wolf Moon, the moon passes in front of Mars or devours it. I thought I could see Mars this morning and yesterday.

The name comes from the Old Farmer’s Almanac, which derives from the Sioux language because wolves could be howling during this time, but don’t wolves always howl on the full moon? Don’t they howl in general at night? Crazy to think how few wolves there are left in the world.

Other names for this moon are Ice Moon, Old Moon, or the moon after Yule (the 12-day festival before Christians) to European cultures.

When there are no more wild wolves, will we still call this the Wolf Moon? You don’t hear a lot of wolves anymore.
