Day 4,033 —Happy Birthday Grammie!—

I was thinking about you today Grammie and past birthdays you have had in St. Louis. Maybe it was just last year that we came over and brought some vegan ice cream that you tried hesitantly as we sat and talked for a while as my children ran around the room and played downstairs.

Vivian gets excited to make you things on your birthday and is always happy to see you. Felix is still figuring everything out, but he is getting more comfortable being himself around more people every day. Yesterday, a young girl who was outside when Felix and I were walking ran away from us as we got closer. Her mom told her we looked nice, but I said it was okay and that Felix was the same way. He will hold onto my hand, or ask me to pick him up and not want to interact with anyone, but he is so full of life when he is at home running around the house saying, “Bam, and I zombie!” There is no stopping him when he thinks something is funny, but he pays attention and listens to everything you say.

Yesterday, I told him not to go into the laundry room, but he was trying to throw some trash away that he found on the ground, and I felt bad I immediately felt the need to correct him because he doesn’t have an insincere bone in his body, and he hears everything I say even if he doesn’t understand the words he always knows what I mean.

I have gone on walks with more this week, which has been so fun to spend alone time with him. I need to make it a regular routine, but then I feel bad if I am not doing the same thing with Vivian. Yesterday, I spent alone time with them both and took Vivian to the park, and we went to the ice cream store together. It was an adventure. It is always an adventure to spend time with your kids if you let them take the lead.

I ran with my 20-pound vest again, and I felt stronger. I felt like I could do more with this vest. The next step is attempting a longer run with this vest.
