Day 4,153—Routine Catastrophes—
It is always nice having a day off, but when you go back, it seems that much more ominous. I can barely remember what I have been doing and what my job is. I know that I spent all day yesterday trying to get my clothes dry, and they were dry last night right before I went to bed, so I still need to hang them up now; otherwise, they will get all wrinkly.
I originally was thinking it would be nice to have some extra time today because I didn’t need to run 5 miles. I was thinking I would run 3, but without a good 3-mile route and with how slow I was moving, I almost took the normal amount of time to run 3.75 miles this morning.
I started the run thinking about why it is so hard to run faster at this hour. I will be going as fast as I can and at the same time know that if I were starting in daylight, I would be running on average 2 minutes faster per mile, but I am not there yet at 4 a.m. I am lucky if I am able to get started on time.
I remembered what I kept forgetting yesterday, which is that the inserts in my shoes kept falling out on Sunday when I was running. I have never had that problem before, but in both feet they kept getting pushed out of alignment. I stopped to fix them once, but after that I just dealt with it. I don’t know how long these shoes have to go; maybe I’ll wear them out before I have to figure out why the inserts are acting this way.
