Day 4,326—a Leisurely Sunday—
Even though it was so cold today, I was in such a good mood going on a leisurely run. Last night I went to the SLUG annual event that was at 4 Hands Brewery in Chesterfield. I was surprised by how much fun it was, and there were even vegan burgers! I got 3rd place for the Easter Missouri Ultrarunners Series, and they gave me this very cool plaque that has my name on it and the names of all the races. I am shocked that the event, which included food, drinks, and free swag, didn’t cost any money. This plaque I had to compete in a lot of races to get, but it was free, and it is well-made. I don’t know when the next time I will be committed to run all the races in the series, so it is pretty cool to get the award. The SLUG membership is only 20 dollars and probably the best 20 dollars I have ever spent, considering all the stuff that it includes. The president was saying yesterday that we’re going to start getting discounts on more races and even running stores in the future. Even if you only do two of the races, the membership pays for itself, but it was super cool to get to go to this event.
My kids were there and were quiet until someone started talking, so that wasn’t the most enjoyable thing in the world to navigate, but it was still fun. I also met a few runners whom I have run in the same areas and races for years but have never spoken to before, so that was meaninful. There were even people there whom I knew, but I wasn’t able to say hello to, mainly because I was busy with the kids. It was crazy. It is not that I see the regular club members often, but at this point, I have known them for years, so it is both a familiar and welcoming group. The president said she was trying to get only 12 more members to hit 200 total, so I am going to do my part and try to talk more people into joining. I am tempted to pay for at least one person's membership just to support the group, even though they don’t do races. I will have to post a picture of the plaque in the future because it looks super classy. The only issue with today’s run and this week is the sudden coldness. It was in the single digits today, and I read tomorrow is going to be colder, but oh well. Also, only one more weekend of training for the Thunder Kiss! I am debating doing a 50-mile run next weekend, but the good news is that I have had a good training season so far. Over the past three weeks, I have run four marathons and one 50K, so I think I will be ready. Such a random chair sighting on the sidewalk! I saw this chair yesterday as well, but I forgot about it until I saw it today. I wonder what the story is. Why is this chair out here!? Has anyone been using it to sit? If so who and why?
