Day 4,327—Taking a Break and Thoughts on Frankenstein—

I meant to write about Frankenstein yesterday, but it slipped my mind; I finished it on Saturday. It was exactly what you might imagine a movie version of Frankenstein to look like. Visually, it was stunning, and the world itself made me think of something like a Peter Jackson film because everything had a certain feel and look that was all-encompassing, but that’s no surprise. There is a reason why Guillermo del Toro was originally picked to make the Hobbit movies. I would have loved to see his version of the world of The Lord of the Rings.

Frankenstein wasn’t bad, but it was the kind of movie I felt like I could talk through because there wasn’t a chance I was going to miss something.

The movie also seemed to follow the book and did the whole framed story thing, which made it feel very old-fashioned and took away the suspense. The story, written like a letter, turned me off to ever finishing the book. I felt the same way about Dracula, which I read maybe half of before I stopped picking it up. Both of those books are written in a letter format. For some stories, I love the letter format, but when it is such a big visual world like the ones that have come out of these stories, it feels underwhelming.

Today, I just wanted to go back to bed, and I slept in a little, but I ended up deciding to get up and do a shorter run today. I know once I am at work and the day starts, it will fly by, but there is so much that I will need to do today and so many potential stressors, but I think I would be more stressed out if I took the day to recover. A short run today has helped me feel refreshed, and my goal today will be to take a lunch break to meditate during the day. I am also going to leave the meeting after school today on time. I have class tonight, and I want to do some homework too, but I have to remember that there are only three more weeks, counting this one, until spring break.
