Day 4,456—Last Day of Summer School—
Start time: 8:12 a.m.
Weather: Low 80s, wind 2.9 mi/h, Humidity 81%
My daughter will be home for the rest of the summer starting tomorrow, which means the end of my ability to get more things done during the day. I am happy to spend more time with her, especially leading up to my trip to Florida, but I keep thinking about what all I should do today that I won’t be able to do starting tomorrow.
I want to be able to spend the time I have today in at least a dozen different ways, giving me enough time to take a bath, work on my book, finish working in the yard, do some shopping, go to the library, learn Spanish, watch the soccer games, play video games, and go to the movie theater. Obviously, that’s not going to happen, so I am starting today by taking a bath after I am done running. Reading and taking a bath are among the activities I have enjoyed since high school. I have ruined a lot of books that way, but nothing beats it. It has led me to try to design a device that would open a book for me so I wouldn’t have to keep my hands out of the water.
I think I am finally getting used to the heat! It isn’t “fun,” but it isn’t fazing me as much, and I am getting better at pacing when the humidity starts to get to me. I was also looking at some information for Vero Beach 100, and it looks like there are bathrooms on the trail, so that should mean a water fountain, but we will see. That will be nice if that’s an option. I will need to spend more time researching the course. I could try to go there in virtual reality and walk some of the hands I am more concerned about. I’ll keep you posted, but I am optimistic about this race. I am annoyed by the various aches and pains in my body, so I want to spend as much time as possible stretching and taking salt baths leading up to the race. I am also getting a haircut and having acupuncture done next week. I felt like I was dreading leaving and doing this race off and on this week, but right now I am starting to look forward to the running part, not so much the driving.
