Day 4,463—1 Runs until the Vero Beach Octopus Ultra 100: Almost Ready!—
Start time: 5:11 a.m.
Weather: Mid 70s, wind 2.5 mi/h, Humidity 91%
I have almost everything in my car right now. I had way too much time to prepare, so I have a lot of things that I probably won't use at all. This morning I was trying frantically to download podcasts and books, but I also haven’t taken screenshots of the route- something else I have started doing just in case I suddenly lose signal. It is nice to have as a backup. I haven’t done that yet, but I have done so much to prepare! I have food, which took me forever to decide what to bring. I have clothes! At least 5 pairs of everything! I expect to use it all this time. I even have a whole bag just for powerbanks. I have never gotten anywhere close to running out of power, but it is always a concern. I didn’t reinflate all my tires, but I have a little air compressor for them. The thing is I always end up feeling this way before races. Somehow I am here, it's time to go, and yet I still don’t want to and feel like I am missing something, and half the time I am missing something, but that’s the way of things. I still remember carrying an electric razor in my pockets one time as a teenager, heading to the airport, once again waiting until the last minute to start packing, or maybe I didn’t wait; I just kept thinking of more things I might need. I am so jealous of people who can pack less and feel self-assured that they won’t need anything else. Wish me luck on the race! I don’t know if I will be able to update my run tomorrow with a write-up. I can try on my phone, but it will most likely only post to Strava, not my blog.
