Day 3,963 —Last Week of February—
I am ready for winter to be over and the Spring to start. Did I miss Groundhog Day this year because that has to be coming up if not? It looks like the weather is going to be in the 60s this week, so I am happy to be thinking about running in the warm weather again and not having to spend 10 minutes getting dressed each morning. Yesterday, I saw a kid on a bike on a frozen stream. At first, I thought about how dangerous it might be to ride his bike on that ice, when it was melting quickly, but the water couldn’t have been more than a couple of feet deep, but at the same time he would end up being freezing cold if he fell in.
He waved at me when he saw that I noticed him. I waved back and asked what he was planning to do. He said he wasn’t sure. I thought about stopping and taking his picture, but I couldn’t decide if I should be encouraging or should be advising him to consider what might happen if his bike ride down the frozen stream didn’t go according to plan.
Today, I was over in the cemetery and noticed a spot where you can see the new pond with the fake egret in the middle. I cannot help but think of that whole area by the pond the way it used to be: an untamed forest so thick, that I never dared to try to wander through. Now, I wish I had when I had a chance to. Now it is just more big boring houses that look down on the meager wildlife.
