Day 4,020 —Earth Day 2025!—
When I was talking to a guy during the 200 last week, I commented on how even though daily meditation is the most helpful when dealing with life’s typical issues. It is often the most difficult thing to keep doing. If I think about all my coping strategies to deal with, running, writing, and taking pictures are at the top of the list, so I am thankful I have been continuing to do those regularly. Still, some others have been just as helpful—meditation, reading, and watching good movies. Most of the time I don’t have time to watch any real movies, but I make time for bad television. I also make time to read the paper almost daily, but cannot seem to crack a book every day.
Before I wrote today, the first thing I did was meditate for 15 minutes. It wasn’t easy. I kept getting distracted and tired, but it was a good way to start the day. I also avoided looking at my phone until after my run and started this run without listening to anything but the birds. I was thinking about all the different bird songs and wondering how many birds I was hearing.
Birds might be great singers/songwriters, but it is hard to tell what they’re singing about. I hear the same song at a different tempo from most of them. I wonder if they get distracted, or are just not thinking about it all. This is always a busy but important week. It will also be Shakespeare's birthday soon. One of my teachers was talking about Hamlet today, and I have forgotten how much I miss reading the plays, but nothing is stopping me from getting back into them. I need to finish all the plays at the very least. I wonder how many more I have to read. I tried to read all of them a few years ago, but I don’t know what happened to the list.
