Day 4,026 —Standing Still—

I ran with a 20-pound vest today because I got up so late that I wouldn’t have more than 20 minutes to run. I decided to run on the other side of Watson today and noticed so many things I hadn’t thought about in years. I remember the Chinese restaurant that used to be off Watson. Now, it is a fake seafood place. Sometimes my mind begins to wander about all the changes that occur that you only notice if you stay in one spot. The parking lot by my house that has been vacant for over ten years is suddenly being broken up. The car lot I pass on my way to the cemetery has suddenly been moved.

Change usually occurs slowly when you watch it, but when you take a step back, it seems transparent. It is like that with people as much as places. I struggle with change because it has always felt as other people change, I tend to stay the same, and even though I am changing, it is harder to notice the change in oneself.

Maybe that’s why I wanted to run in the cemetery today, but the cemetery keeps changing too. Where there used to be so much greener now there are so many more headstones, but I got to visit the deer that live there, and they all froze and looked at me long enough for me to take a picture. It was good to see them.
