Day 4,021 —the Small Things—

Yesterday, was an odd day for a lot of different reasons. I was mainly distracted thinking about the Supreme Court case about Christians fighting for the right to discriminate against gay people. It is sad because it looks like they will likely win and encourage more discrimination against people who are gay across this country.

But what do you expect when every Supreme Court justice is a Christian? And only 3 of the 9 attended a public school. Yet, these are the supposedly unbiased judges who decide issues for every religion and every culture in the United States? It reminds me of how people can act when they realize that most people don’t need special accommodations, so why should anyone get them, or shouldn’t they all get them?! They might say, but if you have 100 people in a group and 50 of them require glasses, you only give glasses to 50 of them; you don’t need to give glasses to everyone; that’s not the point. The majority of the people in this country identify themselves as religious, and most are Christians, so we do not need any laws protecting the Christians. We require laws protecting minorities from being oppressed by Christians. The majority will always oppress the minority if there are no laws in place. This isn’t my opinion; open a history book. Yet, we have people sitting on the Supreme Court who don’t seem to care about protecting minorities. They are only interested in emboldening people like them. They want to make it easier for people who are like them. This is why it is important to have representatives in every branch of government that represent all people. Not just people like them and their family.

But I digress, but it is just sad, and there isn’t a lot I can do about it. I just wish people in power cared more about people who are different from them. It is extra sad because this is something Jesus specifically talked about, but that version of Jesus isn’t talked about in most churches today..

Also, Jesus never said homosexuality is wrong, so I am so sick of Christians acting like that is such a clear thing in the bible. The parts of the bible that talk about it are the same parts of the bible that advocate for slavery and giving your daughter to someone who sexually assaults her, and I don't see a lot of Christians advocating for those rules to be followed.

I know I am mainly just talking to myself, so I am going to stop, but it just bothers me. How can people who pretend to care about everyone be the ones who are only interested in themselves? It is nothing new, but it is just as sad as it ever was.
