Day 4,190—Cold Enough for Gloves—
The cold air felt like a punch to the face. It was slowing me down, not making it easier for me to keep pace. Both my feet were aching. I wondered what I was doing wrong until I remembered that the OT is only two weeks away. It seems like my body always shuts down before a race. It starts going into recovery mode without my consent, and all my morning runs start getting harder. I feel good about my training this season, and I am ready to complete my goal of completing a 100-mile race in each season. I noticed the Halloween decorations more when I was out and about. Animated eyeballs are the new thing this year. This one house has huge cat eyes displayed, so it looks like the house is a monster. I noticed them a few weeks ago, but wasn’t able to get a picture until today.
They looked cool, but they weren’t scary. Maybe if they didn’t so clearly look like cat eyes, I would feel differently. These other animated eyes I have seen were blue and had red lines to make them look bloodshot. It struck me how, as I push through training, details in everyday scenes seem to stand out more. I thought about how odd it would be to see something like this 20 years ago, and I wonder where technology will take decorations next. Will we have fully animated scenes in front of houses next? So it looks like ghosts are floating around someone’s house? Or more sophisticated robots that move around in someone’s front yard?
