Day 4,195—Thoughts on Columbus Day—
I was struck reflecting on why it is so difficult for some people to accept that there should be an Indigenous Peoples Day, which is general and celebrates so many cultures, but people have no problem celebrating Columbus Day. A man who is celebrated not for what he did but for what he ended up representing. His culture was lost, and his legacy was shaped centuries after his death. In that way, he is like indigenous people whose identity is often used as opposed to being discovered or researched.
I was so off yesterday. I even counted how many days until the OT incorrectly. Now, it is 11 days. Yesterday it was 12. I think my issue is that I keep focusing on everything all at once, and it seems impossible. I need to focus on being present and meditating at least this morning and before I leave to come home for work. I have a lot to do, and I don’t like my long hair or beard right now. I tried to schedule a haircut, but I couldn’t get an appointment until Saturday.
