Day 4,193—Trail Ready—
This past weekend, I saw several people finish 100-mile races. I felt a mix of jealousy and excitement, knowing I’ll have more race options next year. I noticed one race in Ohio and another in Kansas City—two states where I haven’t raced yet, and both are nearby. While I’m excited about running the OT this year, I’m a bit disappointed it’s not in a new state. This year, my focus is on embracing the seasons rather than increasing my state count. I’m also considering running in Idaho on November 22, which is a ten-mile loop course. The proximity and benefits of a loop course appeal to me. I originally thought about doing a self-supported run, I've now come to prefer a formal event, but I am not ruling it out.
This trail was gorgeous! I almost missed my chance to run on a trail because Sarah wanted to take pictures, but we switched plans to the evening instead. I’m excited, but I keep thinking I need a haircut. During the run, I fell a few times and hit my hand in the same spot, but thankfully, I wore gloves. I almost left them behind but caught myself just before turning onto the main road and turned around.
The trail was busy today—at least three different groups of runners and many walkers with dogs. The lot was full by the time I returned, and I was pleased to see that I finished a little faster than on my most recent runs here. Although it’s not ideal to run trails so close to race day, I think I’ll fit in one more next weekend. I’m reminded just how much I love fall trails and still think about how much I enjoyed the Fall Creek 100.
