Day 4,275—First Day Back to Work!—

Day 2, and so far, I have kept up with my new routines. I sat on a bench for about 5 minutes during this run. I also started this run without listening to anything. I don’t know if I will always do it, but I like the idea of always starting each run without listening to anything, at least for 5-10 minutes. This year, I spent most of my runs listening to books and podcasts, but when I do that, I miss out on so much.

In the first mile of this run, I noticed someone had tied up a gingerbread cookie inflatable with holiday lights. At first, I thought they were trying to be funny, but then I realized it must have been windy yesterday. It wasn’t too bad when I was running yesterday morning. However, when I got to the track, I saw multiple signs had broken from their place on the fence and were flapping with only one side connected to the fence.

I read for about 5 minutes this morning. I don’t know if I always time myself as I have done in the past, but I want to start reading a physical book every day. I read a few books on my phone last year, which was fine, but it seemed to make the book take forever. I don’t know what the difference is, but it was not helpful.

I also noticed several cars at Blackburn Park and a bunch of people standing around talking. I wonder if the group that goes there to do jumping jacks is back for another year. Of all the bad workout ideas, it isn’t the worst one. I like that they’re doing something outside, and for those who need to be motivated by meeting other people, it is probably perfect. I don’t get why you need other people to do those kinds of workouts, but I am not doing jumping jacks every day, so what do I know? That reminds me, I want to add a routine of push-ups and leg lifts. Maybe a modified set of ten. I will need to start getting up earlier, on Monday, but this was a good step in the right direction. Tomorrow I will get up around the same time. It is so nice to get something done when no one else is up.
