Day 4,300—Still January Still Cold—
I didn’t think it would be an issue to get up on time this morning, but I struggled to get up by 5. The roads were better than they were yesterday, but almost nothing has changed anywhere else. Any path that I normally run that isn’t on a major road is covered with deep snow that is impossible to run in. The major roads weren’t too bad when I started running, but the problem is that the sides of the street and sidewalks are currently nonexistent because of how much snow is packed there, so I mostly tried to stay off the major roads to avoid cars. The good news is that stores are open and most of the roads are free of snow, but that doesn’t mean that the roads aren’t dangerous. Also, the cold isn’t going to get to a point where snow starts melting any time soon. Today and tomorrow have a high of 31, but that is only for a short part of the day, so I doubt that will have much of an impact on the snow.
I looked for the geese that I saw yesterday on the ice, and they were gone. I wondered if they decided to fly somewhere warmer, or what they do when it gets like this. I am looking at the weather now for the next ten days, and it isn’t supposed to warm up any time soon. Next Monday is predicted to be 20-34, so that will be the warmest day in a while, but still not warm enough to predict that the snow will melt.
I wonder if I have enough snow pictures now, and when I go out tomorrow, I will instead focus on running. I love how everything looks in the snow, but it can be exhausting to stop to take a pictures. When I got home, I was planning on shoveling the driveway, but my daughter was up, so I came in the house and discovered that my Yaktraxs broke on both feet! The little chain had just snapped. They aren’t completely useless because one section still works, but pretty annoying considering I have only worn them a half dozen times. I should be thankful to be able to work from home today, but I just don’t like how I also have class tonight on the computer. I am just done spending so much time on my computer. What is this, the pandemic?! At least I should be able to work on the Shippey video at some point today.
