Day 4,301—Back to School—
I got out of bed almost on time today! I wasted no time when getting dressed to go start running. I left my Yaktraxs at home, and I only ran on the plowed streets. I did my best to stay off roads that had traffic, which worked out okay until I had to run a little on Laclede. Almost everywhere I go, there are piles of snow. I had to work from home and had a class last night, so it felt like a long day spent sitting in front of my computer. We were one of the few districts that still used the AMI day, as opposed to taking the day off school. Our superintendent said it was because we didn’t have snow days built into the schedule. I looked at it yesterday to see if that was true, and the days listed didn’t include snow days, but the hours did. Additionally, the state wouldn’t approve a calendar that didn’t have at least five snow days planned, or so I read, so I am fairly certain they aren’t telling us the whole truth.
I know I am fortunate to get to stay home on a day like yesterday, but not being able to play with my kids on a snow day seems like a huge price to pay, so we can try to have school on days like yesterday. When I did get outside at the end of the day with my kids, I was shocked to discover that we couldn’t slide or make a snow person. The snow wasn’t nearly wet enough to do anything like that in the snow. Both of my kids had a lot of fun in the snow, but I was frustrated that we couldn’t do anything like we normally do.
I was thinking yesterday that I hadn’t felt the pain in my left leg in a while, and I was secretly hoping it had just magically gone away, but running today reminded me that it is still very much with me. I at least have some better ways to manage, and I want to do some more acupuncture for it whenever this snow goes away.
I almost finished the video for the race! I should be able to finish it tonight! I don’t have any other videos of the same race, but I think it is interesting to see how a race changes over the years, so I believe the video is justified, and I am already starting to think about how the race might look 5 or 10 years from now. For the longest time, I have thought about how all the marathon medals have looked over the years, but now the idea of having a bunch of 100-mile belt buckles that look the same piled up seems like something else. I have decided to at least start taking pictures of just the Shippey buckles for the video.
