Day 3,733 II—Running without a Vest—

Part of me thought maybe doing more with the vest would make the difference more dramatic, but I like running, so I decided it was more important to run normally most of the time and only run 1 to 2 miles with the vest at this point. It was another day that was extremely nice. I hope it stays like this.

I thought it was ironic to see the sprinklers going, no need for the sprinklers to be on with all this rain. I would like to run a long trail run next. It would be enjoyable to run a trail marathon on Saturday. I have reflected on last week's running and how I dealt with the sun. It was not that hot, but I still lost a lot of water and needed to drink a great quantity of liquids throughout the day. It was exhausting staying hydrated and drinking enough water to go with the Right Stuff Hydration. I need to go slower in the sun and just plan on catching up when I can. It is tough to run like that because when you start you normally feel the best, but I keep blowing up and having to get rehydrated.

I am running in a 6-hour reason on the 20th, so I am going to try to start easy. It won’t be easy because I like starting in the front of the pack, but with the heat maybe it is not smart.

I bought a 10-pound vest and tested it today. The first thing I thought about was how it would throw my effort off on my fitness score. Next time I use it, I will need to turn off my heart rate monitor. I don’t know how big a difference it will make, but it is distracting thinking that is slightly off, but it was something different. I was thinking how my effort would be off when I have to wear my vest during an ultra-trail run, so wearing a weighted vest might make the transition easier.
