Day 3,751 —Felt like Running II—

I normally run down Valcour to Gravois and go right to Grant’s Trail. Today, I went left to the River Trail and worked my way back running through the park. I haven’t ran that section of Gravois in a while, and I have forgotten all the retail and service places over there. There is a record store I keep meaning to check out. I also noticed a place that boasted it had “BLU-RAYS-VHS-GAMES” and it mentioned a service called “NICKLEFLIX.”

I wanted to see if I could get my heart rate up past 150, but even though I felt like I was breathing hard, it didn’t get much higher than the 140s. I wanted to see if I could trick my body into getting into a higher heart rate at the start of the run, but that didn’t happen. Recently, the only times I have noticed my heart rate in the 160s + is during a race, and it is later in the day. I don’t want to lose the ability to run faster when I want to, so I felt like trying at least to push the pace today. After all, I had to get home, so I could take my daughter to get a Smoothie. I don’t have a lot of time, and I already put it off one day.

I am not sure if I have ever noticed these locks on the fence on the River Edge. It doesn’t feel like a bridge because it is going in the same direction that the rest of the path is on, but I am not sure how these things start or who starts putting locks on what fences on what bridges first. I saw a lock with a code instead of a key, which seemed different. Isn’t part of this tradition, to keep the key?
