Day 3,905 —Training Runs in Reflection: 5 Ultras and 8 Marathons—
I was trying to remember how many training runs I have completed this year that were at least a marathon, but I don’t know off the top of my head. The big one was the Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim at the Grand Canyon. It wasn’t exactly 50 miles, but it was close.
After looking through the data on Garmin, I have come up with the following: 1 100K, 2 50ish, 2 40ish, and 8 full marathons.
July 1 67 miles
July 2 50
November 9 48 miles
March 17 40 miles
December 6 39 miles
February 18 27 miles
March 9 26.7 miles
July 7 26.3 miles
February 24 26.3 miles
June 16 26.27 miles
February 11 26.24 miles
December 29 26.24 miles
March 2 26.23 miles
I thought there would be more, but I guess that’s kind of a lot, so that means all together I ran 12 Ultra Marathons and 9 Marathons in 2024. I could have completed more training ultras, but it was difficult to find the time this year. I ended up more often doing 20ish mile runs instead of going after the bigger 50K and 50-mile regular training runs, but I don’t think I have done those kinds of training runs for a couple of years. I didn’t do a personal 100 but did do the Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim, which was spectacular. I would go back next weekend. I plan to do that run again and maybe even try to do a training 100 or some type of R5. I am sure people do that kind of stuff all the time. If I lived closer, I would want to be on the canyon floor at least once a month.
