Day 3,894 —One Week: Shopping, Phony Superstar—
Last year, we would have already been celebrating Hanukkah by now, but this year Hanukkah starts the day after Christmas, which I kind of like because it means I will be able to continue to give little presents for my daughter and son for a while past Christmas. My daughter has asked so many days this week if tomorrow she will get to open presents.
Last night, I went out shopping with her like I did with my sister when I was much younger. Mary and I used to go to the little shops before Christmas and walk around and buy the kind of things people throw away when they move. I am not saying that makes me regret buying the gifts, but it was fun to go physically to places and then think about the people I needed to buy gifts for.
Vivian was great to shop with, and we went into the Bookhouse. I hadn’t been there since it was an actual house that got destroyed. I was still in high school then. I interviewed the woman who worked there for a paper I had written in high school. I don’t think she remembered me, but I spent a lot of money there.
Today, I ran in the cold and struggled to get up, but I wasn’t in a bad mood.
