Day 3,900 —Starbucks: bad for Coffee, but worse for People—

I read this morning that Starbucks went on strike and the strike expanded, but when I saw my local Starbucks on strike, I was still surprised.

I have always disliked Starbucks, so my opinion is likely biased against them as a corporation.

I remember my Uncle Tom, a doctor, coming up to visit us as a kid. He just had to have Starbucks every morning, so that was my first exposure to it. The only one we had at the time was in the bookstore, which is no longer there, but he would go there early each morning.

He had all the pro-Starbucks propaganda that he was telling me then and what a great company it is.

I remember learning that they purposely burn their coffee beans, so they will get that consistent “Starbucks” taste, and I hated that. I reflected on how the entire company believed that individuals were ignorant and would perceive a product as good simply because they had it at Starbucks. Initially, Starbucks consistently delivered the worst cup of coffee in the area, however, that did not deter them from expanding and expanding. Eventually, they got more of a balanced roast in the rotation, but it took a long time. That’s not right that you do a bad job and treat people like they're stupid, and yet they keep lining up to give you more money. Regardless, to say, I am strongly in support of the strike and told the workers this morning when I took their picture.

I already barely drink any Starbucks and only end up there when I am with other people, but I will do better than that and not accept any Starbucks even if other people pay for it.
