Day 4,138—Backpacks on the Lawn—

Not sure why someone put a bunch of backpacks on their front lawn, but I have noticed a surprising amount of odd things on this lawn over the years. It is also the one lawn where I have seen a minivan parked on the street in the towaway zone consistently, which is not a big deal when I am running, but driving it always startles me enough to lean over and make sure I have read the sign right.

Today is the first day of school! For me, my daughter, and all public school students across the state, it marks a fresh start. In contrast, private schools can do whatever they want, so they don’t have to start today, or teach the truth over fiction, or accommodate children with IEPs or 504 plans, or hire certified teachers, or administer standardized tests to all students.

With all these changes swirling in my mind, I am not sure what will happen today, but I am excited to find out. Good luck to everyone else starting school today. It might be different, but everything different doesn’t have to be bad.

It is hard to believe this is my 5th over a 100-mile run this year; it doesn’t feel like there have been that many.
