Day 4,567—2 Runs until the Rim to River: not in Control of a Lot—

Start time: 4:35 a.m.

Weather: High 40s wind .2 mi/h, Humidity 90%

Last night I labeled my drop bags and picked out most of the clothes I plan to use for the race, but I felt like I could have done more overall, and stuff is stressful. Work yesterday was just one thing after another, no breaks, no time to reflect. I need more time to check in with colleagues around difficult situations, so I am going to try to add something to the calendar next week to do that, but it isn’t easy. There is always more that I want to do than I can realistically do.

It is nice to have a little more time in the morning, but right now the morning is the main part of the day when I can focus, so I always have these far-reaching plans, but I love focusing on other people’s problems all day. It gets me out of my head and makes me feel valuable.

Tonight, I am going to try to get more packing done and maybe make a list of tasks to do. It is going to be hard to leave on time Friday morning the way that I am going, and I don’t have a choice about that. I need to leave on time if I am going to set myself up for success over the weekend. I know I cannot please everybody, and I can't ever please myself, so that limits my options most of the time, but I was going to say something good to end this with, and now I forget. I also meant to do something last night, but I cannot remember what that was either.

I have been successfully not consuming caffeine, which always blows my mind how easy it is to get off regular coffee. I haven’t had any since last Friday. I have been drinking decaf every day, which makes me feel in control of something when I am not in control of a lot. I also need to rebuild my playlist because I canceled my music subscription since I don’t get the student discount anymore.
