Day 2,509 —the Animals are Back and Stop Corrupting Kids— (With a Bee and a Sunrise)

I saw three deer running through Blackburn this morning. I saw a cat by itself with a collar. I have seen some missing cat posters around, so I try to keep an eye out, but it is difficult when cats are allowed outdoors by their owners in this area, so I am never sure if it is a lost cat or a cat that lives nearby.

I have successfully stretched each night before going to bed for the last few days or so. I was thinking today about how terrible it is that we allow Meat and Dairy council to literally hire people to write textbooks with what appears like “Health” advice that tells kids to eat and drink meat and dairy products. Then the government pays for food that is primarily meat and dairy and give it to kids on programs called “free and reduced lunch.” It appears that we are actively trying to harm kids because it will benefit the meat and dairy industry. 75% of African Americans are lactose intolerant, yet we actively give them dairy products each day at school in this country.

It seems like you don’t have to look that hard to figure out why it is more difficult to be healthy depending on race and socioeconomic factors.

I grew up thinking that my school and teachers generally had my best interest in mind; I wish I still could still say that was true.
