Day 2,515 —I See You Possum— (with the Arch in the Morning Part 1 and 2)

I feel bad for the possum. He is always running away (I say “he,” but it could be she). I cannot say I blame him. I am sure everywhere he goes people treat him like a disease. I imagine that the times he has been found he has been hurt by everyone from adults to children. It is just not a face anyone can seem to have sympathy for. When he sees me, he is blinded by light and doesn’t do anything at first. Then he scurries quickly up a tree. He puts his nose up in the air and stays perfectly still waiting for me to run away. He is still waiting now I am sure. He will always be waiting if he still hopes the world will realize someday in the distant future that maybe he has something to offer too.

I saw this possum and just thought about why no one likes possums. I realized it has nothing to do with them and everything to do with us. Humans have a tendency to only like animals that have faces that remind us of us.
