Day 2,518 —Officially a Year Now— (with Forest Park and Deer in the Cemetery)

This was the week that started it all. I remember it so vividly. We started hearing about people catching it on the news. A lot of people I knew were scoffing at the seriousness of the issue and comparing it to the flu. To this day most of those early deniers remain diligent that somehow this virus is “not that big of a deal,” and that they don’t want to “live life in fear,” by doing basic things like wearing mask and practicing social distancing.

I have learned so much about people this year because of that. Look at all the people that despite objective, observable evidence still will find ways to believe and validate their belief system. It is really discouraging. I wish our culture valued objective reasoning and character growth instead of defiance and blind faith.

How can we ever communicate with each other if we hold onto our opinions like they have been written in stone? Maybe it is simply reflection that we need to value more. If we possible encouraged everyone to be more reflective and self-aware, maybe these things would work themselves out? Nobody convinces you of something more than you do. Is it too much to ask social media companies to help people become self-aware? Instead of blind consumers?

This is just what I was thinking about during my run . . . have a good Friday.
