Day 2,953 —Great Workers, Great Racers, and Great Storm! — with a PICTURE of a TRAIL in the WOODS #738

I started the race not feeling great. I had gone to the doctor yesterday because I have an ear infection. My hearing has not been normal since Thursday.

Even driving to the race was difficult because the fog and the narrow winding roads.

But, I said I would try and even though the storm made the second half of the first loop ominous and uncomfortable. The volunteers were amazing helping me above and beyond. I had to use someone’s phone so I could call my wife. My phone had no signal, so I left it in the car, but that is how she was tracking me. I didn’t want her not know where I was for potentially 7 hours, so a kind man was willing to let me leave a voicemail for her.

I was hoping I would be able to say I did not fall at all, but I fell twice. So a huge improvement over the double Chubb. One time I slipped down a mud slide and got mud inside my water bottle, but the amount of mud on the trail on the second lap was insane.

I met so many interesting runners. And, I do want to write more tomorrow about the race, but tonight I am going to have to call it quit. I had to drive home after the race, and I didn’t get home until after 8. The driving was so miserable, but I am happy with what I was able to do today. I shot some videos of myself, and it is funny because the one I took after I finished the race, it seems like I look the most put together. I did change my clothes by then and my hair was dry, so might be the main difference, but it did seem odd how little my look changed through the course of this double marathon. I’ll update with stories and pictures from the race tomorrow.
