Day 2,982 —Happy Juneteenth: The people of Texas are informed . . . — with a PICTURE of CLOUDS in the MORNING #755

It took two months after Lee surrendered for Texas to obey the law. Texas needed the federal army to show up for them to be convinced that they would need to obey the law. This underlining issue has always upset me. Isn’t this just more evidence to show that the southern states were almost immediately in denial about their loss even right after it happened? And now 157 years later there is even more people in denial about the Civil War. Gone with the Wind is still considered a masterpiece, and not what it really is--propaganda for the southern way of life and the confederacy in general.

The way the film intentionally represents individuals became a history for generations of people who learned to deny history in the same way their parents did.

Well, I am still going to try to have a good day and not think about Gone with the Wind for the rest of the day. And if you like the film, I would agree that it is a pretty film. The costumes and lighting are nice to look at.
