Day 3,834 —a Trip to my Local Grocer—
I have officially posted the race video and my complete write-up of the race. It was a lot of work this week, but I hope you like it! I wanted to include a slightly more personal story this time, but I think it is something many of us ultra runners go through.
I hung out with my kids this morning. The three of us sat down, and we all drew pictures. My 18-month-old posed the biggest challenge because, while an enthusiastic artist, he has a difficult time sticking with the same writing utensil. Once my daughter got started on drawing people, the only help she needed was finding more markers. She later finished the drawing I made and added the sky the ground and added shoes. She intuitively understands colors and how they complement each other, and does an excellent job of building texture complexity into her pictures. For example, she always does different designs for the character’s shirt.
I ran over to the grocery store to get my daughter’s favorite drink as she refers to it, which is a kid fruit smoothie drink. They do have sugar in them, but they’re vegan, and she loves them, so I got her and Felix some of those, and it just made my run feel so much more valuable than had it been for just myself. I felt good today, running by all the horses by Grant’s Farm. I noticed some young kids touching the fence that says “Electric Fence” in bold letters. It made me laugh because I always knew it was way too big of a safety risk to have an electric fencer there; however, I never saw anyone touch the fence before, and why would you? Unless, you were 4 and didn’t know better, but all the horses were at a safe distance away, so it didn’t look like anything unsafe was taking place. I would have probably freaked had my daughter touched that fence. Not that I ever was convinced it was electric, but I get that it is dangerous to be so close to the horses, so not a bad idea to keep away from the fence.
