Day 3,970 —Anora for the Win! —

I was still thinking about Anora as I ran into the park and saw this herd of deer hanging out by where there used to be a pond.

Not since Parasite or possibly CODA have I been happier about who won the Oscar for best picture. Anora told a familiar story but with a voice and a focus on character that was refreshing and insightful. It was perfectly executed and performed, all the pieces working together cohesively. The character moves truly surprised me, but at the same time, they came off as honest.

Something that could not be said about the film the Brutalist which was messy, uneven, and a performance by Guy Pearce that was so bad that it came off like he was in a different movie. I was disappointed that Adrien Brody won. His performance wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t interesting either. He came off as a complete jerk in his acceptance speech, telling the orchestra to not play him off because “I have done this before.” I cannot help but remember the last time when he won, he forcibly kissed Halle Berry. This time the Oscars had a guy present him with the award, to not recreate the same scenario, but why? All the other actors deserved it more than he did.

But, I am not trying to be negative, just really don’t like Adrien Brody as a person now, but still so happy that Anora cleaned up in the major categories. Sean Baker, winning 4 Oscars and being an unknown who couldn’t afford rent in his apartment less than 10 years ago.
