Day 3,998 —10 Days and 9 Runs until the Potawatomi 200! —
This morning it was cold, which made me think about how cold it might be during the race, which is now only 10 days away! I guess I should be prepared for the cold and the rain, but the race being so long I could theoretically take a break during a rainstorm, or if it gets particularly cold and windy. I guess in theory I could be there the whole time and not finish, but that seems more unlikely than me going out too hard, so I am planning on sleeping every night and easing myself into the race by staying slow and cautious, especially on Thursday and Friday. My goal for those two days will be to finish roughly 120 miles, but even if I only do 100, that wouldn’t be so bad.
I got another pre-race email this morning, which makes the race feel that much more real. However, I still have life, work, and school things I need to do, so I cannot exclusively focus on the race, but there is still so much to do to get ready. I keep buying stuff that I think might be helpful. This weekend I felt good having had the surgery and there were no clear signs that I wouldn’t have fully recovered in a few days. My biggest issue now has been the rash that I have on my stomach, but the lotion I have been putting on has seemed to help, and the bath I took last night made everything feel a little better. It looks like my belly button is more shallow now, so I wonder if it has fundamentally changed at all. It does seem different, but I doubt anyone would be able to notice unless they were looking at a picture comparison.
