Day 3,990 —Shopping in the Rain—

I left the flap on the tent open, and it was raining, so I went outside in my robe without shoes to try to close it, so more rain didn’t get in there. It is probably a good thing Vivian didn’t sleep in there last night. Initially she said she wanted to. I didn’t think she was going to, but I thought I would at least read a book to her in the tent. About 15 minutes before bedtime, she changed her mind.

She reminded me that she is allowed to change her mind, and I couldn’t disagree with her logic.

I ran to the store because I still needed to buy chocolate for my sister and her family. I bought one of those cloth bags from the store to carry home, and the woman who checked it out seemed so annoyed that you could buy vegan candy.

“They make everything plant-based, these days,” she said without looking up. I comment that Reese's was the only major candy that made a vegan version that was readily available. There are vegan Kit Kats, but you have to import them to get them.

After she put most of my stuff bag in the bag, she marveled at how expensive it was: “87 dollars! In such a little bag?!”

It didn’t seem like much to me, mostly because most of it wasn’t for me and bags of chocolate chips aren’t cheap, but seeing her put on a show reminded me of how many people like her seem to be confused by anyone who is different.

“Maybe you can get vegan chocolate, but it is so expensive!”

Here is the link to my video for the 100-mile run last weekend! Let me know what you think if you watch it. It is different.
