Day 3,980 —Tomorrow is the Howard Aslinger 24 hour race!—
I have been
so busy with work stuff this week that I haven’t done anything to pack for
tomorrow. I got the morning to run around and get some shopping done, but I
want to just have set things to grab, so I don’t have to do as much thinking.
Here are my categories so far:
Food
As much real food as I can get, stuff I am not going
to get sick of it that isn’t too sweet. I debated bringing some vegan KitKat
bars but decided against it. My teeth started bothering me last time with all
the sweet stuff I was eating.
Hydration
I bought my packets, but I want to make sure to just
have plenty of pre-mixed stuff, so I don’t have to think about it so much. I
will probably bring both of my coolers filled to the top with stuff.
Clothes
I am not sure all I am going to need for this one,
but at least one additional pair of shoes, plenty of socks and at least 3
changes of everything. I keep thinking it is only 24 hours, but that is a long
time to be running.
Electronics
I want to bring and need to charge my two old
phones, my remote batteries, my headlamps, my headphones, and the cord for my
watch.
Medical Stuff
I should bring my first-aid box, plenty of Vaseline,
and an emergency blanket. I might bring some athletic tape too.
I am used to needing to worry about clothes with all
the extreme temperatures in my most recent 100-mile runs, but that shouldn’t be
a factor in this one. Right now it is showing a 50 percent chance for rain
tomorrow, but if it is in the 70s that shouldn’t be that big of a deal, but I
do want to make sure I have plenty of extra clothes I can change into when I
get tired of being wet.
I didn’t get a hotel room, so I hope it is okay if I
sleep in the tent for a while before heading back home early Saturday night or
on Sunday morning.
I am looking forward to it, and I plan to make a
video for this race. It is my first 24-hour race experience! I just got an
update from the race saying they might pull people off the course if there are
tornado warnings. News to me. I hope that doesn’t happen, but it could make for
an eventful video.
