Day 4,103—Walking with my Kids First—

I was up late last night, but surprisingly, I got to sleep in this morning. Although I have a busy weekend coming up, I'm feeling refreshed. I have nothing pressing today. Things will start ramping up soon, and it has already been a busy summer, but it seems like nothing ever stops being busy; things just keep changing.

I am still running with my weighted vest because why not? It is an easy way to get a slightly more intense workout even though I am not doing as many miles. I won’t be wearing it this Saturday, so hopefully that change will be nice. It is still surprisingly cool outside, not nearly as hot as it was last summer. The only downside to starting late this morning was how many other people were out. I was over on the trail around the retirement area and saw a deer hanging out, but I ran into enough people for me to change course and go in a different direction. It is their trail, so my rule is to leave it immediately if I see people in the area walking. People were finally cleaning up the trees in that area.

The flooding and natural disasters seem so intense this year; each day I am reading more about what is happening in Texas and how little government and state support is available, resulting in a lot of needless death. It isn’t surprising as much as it is vexing because this is exactly what we saw during the COVID pandemic, and yet if people were privileged enough to not have it affect them, they just don’t care about other people’s suffering. And somehow continue to find ways to blame the victims. At the same time, the government continues its attack on science, firing all the leading scientists who might have predicted these disasters, and opting for dilettantes that are loyalists to the administration. It is so sad and against all the precedent leading up to this administration. People in other countries most think we’re so stupid.
