Day 4,090—Texas in July—

I did the worst thing when I woke up this morning at 4 a.m.: I kept looking at the time and going back to sleep for roughly 2 hours! I don’t know what was wrong with me. I know that sleep doesn’t really count yet; I did not want to get out of bed.

I finally started my run after 6:30! I knew I wanted to do at least 7 miles. I headed off in the opposite direction from yesterday. I liked this side of the river better than the other side. The other side was filled with more shops and restaurants, but this side looked more like a trail with some scenic paths, parks, and shrubbery. I got to one part, and I had to jump across big stones, which is always fun.

I got to a certain part where I didn’t see that many people anymore, and I could smell someone smoking weed. I saw two guys and a girl talking. I heard the woman say something like, “Do you ever think about death? It is no joke.”

The guy acted like they were having a super serious conversation and said, “Yeah, death sucks. No joke.”

I don’t know if I did a terrible misrepresentation of the conversation, but the whole scene was just funny to me, and I think it is funny that while I am running, other people are walking and smoking weed first thing in the morning. Or maybe they had a late night? It is Tuesday morning, but who knows? Later, I saw this bird that was tall and elegant. I got close enough to take a few pictures, and he barely moved.

I turned around at the Confluence Park, and it had these huge manmade structures. They were no joke.
