Day 4,107—No Vest Today—
I have the 6-hour race tomorrow, so I was thinking I needed to take it easy today. I don’t know why, but I felt sore this morning, and I was surprised at how I wasn’t any faster without my weighted vest. Only two weeks from tomorrow until my next 100-mile race! I will need to start making plans for it soon. I have been running with my sandals all week, and I am surprised how they still don’t feel super comfortable. I'm debating whether I need to buy a new pair of shoes before the next race. I randomly talked to a guy about my running yesterday, who was at my house to look at the flooding we have been dealing with. He saw my container of medals, and I told him about some of the races I have done. I was surprised when talking to him how little I can remember about my times and even some different specifics about the runs (what city was that run in?). I am even starting to conflate different runs together. These are good arguments for the need to keep running as many different races as possible each year. I cannot see myself skipping some of my local races, but possibly the Shippey might be my only regular 100-mile race. It is not that I don’t like any of the other local races, but it is all about timing. Every year is different, but recently I have been feeling more and more like I want to challenge myself with as many kinds of races as possible, and maybe I need to start entering myself in lotteries for the big races I have avoided so far.
