Day 4,097—Time to Shave?—
I briefly look in the mirror each morning. All I notice is that I haven’t shaved in a week, and it is looking unruly. How does anyone have time to shave on a regular basis? I notice the stubble on my neck goes in a circle, something I had never noticed before someone pointed it out. They said it reminded them of a painting. I felt embarrassed that I hadn’t shaved. And whose hair grows in a circle?
I wore a long-sleeved shirt on this run, so I sweated profusely. I am listening to a new book called The Compound. It is the kind of bestseller that I listen to or read quickly but rarely remember. They all have British female protagonists who are unreliable narrators. You think I would be over them by now, but I cannot help but be entranced.
I read the notice for the Badger 100, and it mentioned that there would be free camping and a music festival. I wonder if we will be able to hear music while we’re running. I should probably be more worried about this 100-mile race, but I cannot help but feel like I still need some time to recover. Both of my feet hurt, and I haven’t taken a long bath recently. I bought a backpack yesterday I can run in! It wasn’t 250 dollars, but it is waterproof. I am excited to use it. I imagine going on runs to the grocery store and either walking or running with it back home.
My two year old is playing with my Batman Legos now. He calls Batman “Bunny.” The other day he dressed up like Spiderman and was growling when he said, “I am Spidey.”
