Day 2,586 —the Beginning of the End— with a PICTURE of the SUN and TRAIN TRACKS

I had recently been feeling sick, tired, and sore, but not today. The pleasant balmy weather was a plus while thinking about the end of the school year that is finally here. Last day with my seniors. I am going to miss them. It was a year they will remember for the rest of their lives. I have known most of them for the past four years. It makes me sad thinking about getting older and watching kids grow up, but it makes me happy too, seeing the next generation spring up and bring something new to this world. Every generation has something different to offer that the world hasn’t seen yet.

I often rail on about how they do not have much of an attention span, or struggle more readily with complex task, but it is a group that has learned from their mistakes over the years, and they seem to really care about their futures. Every year I start out asking my 9th graders, “what’s the difference between a wise man and a fool?” I listen to their answers for five-minutes or so, and then I tell them my answer, which I did not originally write, nor know who originally said it, but I think it sums up my philosophy on teaching. The answer goes, “a wise man learns from their mistakes.”

I think this group is brimming with wise men and women.
