Day 2,652 —Butterfly on the Ground— today with a PICTURE of a WIRE over a WINDOW
I like the idea of doing a series of insect pictures this week and so far, I have gotten some good ones except for Friday. There is a tiny park with a garden off Elm across from the Webster Grove’s middle school that I decided to head towards. I hoped to get a butterfly picture to give more variety to the ones I have already taken.
I saw a butterfly near the middle of the road on my way. I felt sad that it had died, but still, I should probably take a picture. I would not take a picture of a dead animal, so I hesitated. I was still staring at it fumbling with my camera when it flew away.
I wonder why it was resting near the middle of the road. I am glad it was alive and ambivalent about missing the picture. I continued towards the tiny park. I at first didn’t see any insects, but once I stayed still for a moment, I saw a dozen of them. There were mostly bees, but at least two different types of bees, and I saw some tiny flies.
They were all moving so fast, so it was hard to get a picture. I figured that the people that do this professionally probably use a tripod and take pictures on timers and / or sensors, so the camera is already focused, and the insects can fly into focus. It was a little harder to do it handheld even if my camera had a macro lens. I did resort to shooting on manual focus eventually waiting for the insects to fly into the right zone, but it was slow goings, and I got mixed results.
I ended up liking four of the pictures I took today, but none were of a butterfly, and I am okay with that.
